We are aware of how worrying it is to have a sick child. If you are concerned
about your child we will always see the child the same day at the surgery. Often
children develop a temperature because of an infection. This is usually caused
by a virus and the child will get over such infections without the use of
antibiotics.
The following advice will help to reduce the temperature:
- Give paracetamol (e.g. Calpol, Disprol)
- Give plenty of cool drinks and encourage them to drink little and
often
- Dress in cool clothes
- Sponge down with tepid water (not cold)
If a child is not improving over 24-48 hours or if you are worried please do
not hesitate to telephone the surgery for further advice.
